今だけ、ここだけ、あなた様だけに「邸宅の逸品」をご提供させていただきます。
The gem is a low round slice table made of a large raw wood of the highest quality natural cedar called “Yakusugi” from Yakushima. Yakushima is an island which is designated as a World Heritage site by UNESCO in 1993 and it is famous for its Jomon Cedar (the oldest plant on earth) which is said to be 7000 years old. In Yakushima, only the cedar which is more than 1000 years old is called "Yakusugi" and is distinguished from other cedars like ‘Kosugi (means small cedar)” and “Jisugi (ground cedar).” Then in 1954, Yakusugi was globally recognized and designated as a National Natural Treasure by the Protection of Cultural Properties.
Not only the raw Yakusugi wood itself but also the craft made of the wood has its rarity value. Yakusugi tree has lived and survived thousands of years in the island which entirely consists of coarse granite, considered the worst environment for plants to grow. At this present day, it is prohibited by law for anyone to cut down the Yakusugi trees. It is only possible to collect from the logged and buried wood from Edo or the ones felled due to natural disasters. In addition, it was reported in the Yomiuri newspaper (May 11, 2013) that such bog-wood would be exhausted in a few more years. As a result, the price of the wood has risen with higher demand and it has become a rarity. Artifact and craft objects made from Yakusugi wood have become subject of speculation and investment purposes for collectors.
The round slices with a large log cut to the side like this table is very rare because Yakusugi raw wood is often vertically cut into lumber. The fine wood grain annual ring will not fade even after thousands of years. And above all, the beauty of the Tiger pattern and the wonderful outer formation layer (after removing the bark from the round slices) will strongly attracts the eye of the beholder. In addition, the top plate with a large thickness of 13cm exudes a dignified presence and profound feeling of "the only one in the world” Yakusugi low round slice table.
The longer you use the furniture made of such aged raw wood, the more “taste or character” it will developed. This is due to the resin that the tree possesses. According to one theory, it is said that the Yakusugi stores about six times more resin than the general cedar. This resin not only has an antiseptic, antibacterial, and insect repellent effect but also as the resin spreads, it will become more embedded into the wood which eventually change in both color and gloss. The legs are made by making a vertical cut outside the wood of the Yakusugi, and this leg type will not damage the valuable table top. It can also be used as a dining table if the legs are specially replaced. Each component is finished individually and that makes the table even more incomparable. This table also comes with an acrylic cover (for storage and transportation), designed to protect the top plate from scratches.
This Yakusugi low round slice table is made from a rare tree thousands of years ago. This “Gem of the Mansion" will continue to be loved for hundreds of years and generations to come.
As the table is made of wood, it naturally shows aging process. There are no noticeable scratches, dirt, etc. that can be seen. However, it is still a secondhand item. Please do not bid if you are concerned about any minor defect.
