"This collection, Hours of Darkness: Edited Highlights of the Let It Be Sessions, distills these tapes down to the best performances from the sessions, over the course of 14 discs and 400 tracks. Here, the mistakes are edited out, incomplete and half-decent performances are combined into better versions, film crew announcements and extraneous noises are mostly deleted, fade-ins and fade-outs are avoided as much as possible, and all the essential leftovers and improvisations are gathered together, in order to present these sessions in the best possible light.
"Instead of being ordered chronologically, each disc is arranged thematically, and given a title taken from a contemporaneous record that reflects the disc’s theme. The idea here is to start with the best material from the sessions and work down from there, with each successive disc presenting material that is less and less essential and enjoyable than the one before. The first five discs contain all the best moments, and each disc has been arranged to present a listenable experience from beginning to end ―there aren’t endless takes of a single song on any one disc. By Disc Six, which presents the lengthiest instrumental jams from the sessions, the material begins to become less than required listening, but each disc has its own outstanding moments. Just about anything anyone would be interested in listening to from an enjoyment standpoint, rather than an academic standpoint, is included on these 14 discs. In addition to outtakes and rehearsals, there are also two remixes of the final Let It Be album, three different presentations of the concert performed on the roof of the Apple headquarters building on 30 January 1969, and a nearly 3-hour audio documentary version of the sessions, to tell the story of what happened during Let It Be, through conversations and performances heard on the session tapes.
"Without further ado, enjoy the Let It Be sessions reimagined, in this “new phase” Beatles bootleg, just in time for the 50th anniversary of the original project. Here are the “hours of darkness” in all their glory. It’ s Let It Be like you’ve never heard it before!"
Tracks in stereo where available. Slates, camera crew announcements, and Nagra sync signals edited out whenever possible, however, in cases where it would require a fade-in or fade-out or entirely change the lyrics, then the slate/sync signal is kept in, so about 93% of the beeps are gone on the first 5 discs, and all but 3 of the camera announcements are gone, too. The 3 that remain are on the songs "Sure To Fall", "Sweet Little Sixteen", and the German version of "Get Back". There's no way to eliminate them on those three tracks without changing the songs considerably, or fading them in and missing a good chunk of the song. So they are kept in, but take a stab at editing the announcements out if you want to. I didn't bother editing out the beeps (though I did the slates) on some of the later discs, but given the nature of the material, it isn't always possible, and it wouldn't really add a ton more enjoyment to them (it's kind of hard to patch a 20-second performance of an oldie when the beep comes in the middle of the one and only verse).

Disc 13: AN EAR TO THE SOUNDS OF OUR HISTORY (Part Three) SILVER APPLES. The De-Spector-ed Special Edition of the Let It Be Album. Same idea as the first disc, except some of Spector's "mistakes" are corrected, such as using the 31 January master take of The Long & Winding Road instead of the 26 January version, and using the 4-minute edit of Dig It instead of the 50-second edit.
Disc 14: AERIAL BALLET. More Mixes of the Rooftop Concert. The first mix on this disc is the full unedited concert, using stereo sources where possible. The second mix on this disc is the Ron Furmanek stereo mix as edited for the Let It Be film.
